How we rate moviesIn this article
This Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution review looks at a compilation film that repackages the Shibuya Incident and adds a first look at the Culling Game. It runs 88 minutes and arrives in cinemas as a big-screen event for fans. Whether it works for you depends almost entirely on how much of the story you already know.
Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution Review: The Story So Far (No Spoilers)
The Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution plot starts on Halloween in Shibuya. A veil suddenly descends over the packed district and traps countless civilians inside. Satoru Gojo, the strongest jujutsu sorcerer, walks into the chaos, but curse users and spirits are waiting with a plan to seal him away.
Yuji Itadori, his classmates and other top-tier sorcerers join the fray in a clash of curses known as the Shibuya Incident. The film then pivots to the aftermath. Ten colonies across Japan become dens of curses, and the deadly Culling Game begins.
The film closes on a new threat for Yuji. Special Grade sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu is assigned to carry out his execution for his perceived crimes. That is the hook the film leaves you with, and it is a strong one.
What Works in Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution
The biggest draw is the action. Director Shota Goshozono stages the Shibuya fights with speed, weight and a clear sense of geography, and a cinema screen suits that scale. Cursed techniques collide in crowded streets, and the tension rarely lets up.
The editing also deserves credit. Cutting a sprawling story into 88 minutes means leaving things out, and the film keeps the best set pieces and the key emotional beats. Hiroshi Seko's script keeps the main thread of the Shibuya Incident easy to follow if you know the characters.
The Culling Game preview is the other bright spot. It adds fresh stakes and a tense setup, and it makes a good case for watching what comes next. If you like a dark, fast-paced animated action story, this will hit the spot.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution Cast and Performances
The Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution cast is made up of the series' Japanese voice actors, and they bring real commitment. Junya Enoki voices Yuji Itadori and carries the character's shift from cheerful energy to raw grief. Megumi Ogata plays Yuta Okkotsu, giving the new arrival a calm, unsettling presence.
Koji Yusa voices Naoya Zen'in and Daisuke Namikawa returns as Choso. Yuma Uchida (Megumi Fushiguro) and Asami Seto (Nobara Kugisaki) round out the principal voices. The performances stay strong in the loudest battle scenes as well as in the quieter moments between them.
Where Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution Stumbles
The main problem is that this is not a standalone film. It condenses earlier episodes, then ends by teasing the next stretch of the story. Newcomers will struggle with the relationships, the rules of the magic system and the weight of the losses.
Even fans may feel a little shortchanged. Some of the series' slower, character-driven moments get trimmed to keep the pace up, so the emotional punch can land softer than it did in the original run. Other anime films, such as the Demon Slayer movies, offer something more self-contained, and that comparison does this one no favours.
The structure also feels uneven. The film spends most of its time on a recap, and the new material arrives late and briefly. It works more like an extended trailer for the next season than a full story of its own.
Is Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution Worth Watching?
Yes, if you already follow the series, and probably not if you are new to it. Fans get a polished, high-energy replay of one of the franchise's biggest arcs on a large screen, plus an early look at what is coming. For them, it is a fun night out.
Newcomers should start with the original episodes instead. Without that background, the stakes and the character connections will not land. Audience reaction has been mixed, with TMDB users giving it 6.1 out of 10, and our score is in the same range.
